Banchob Sripa
Banchob Sripa is a renowned parasitologist and biomedical researcher known for his significant contributions to the field of tropical medicine. His research primarily focuses on the liver fluke, a type of parasite that causes biliary tract diseases, including cholangiocarcinoma, a type of cancer.
Early Life and Education
Banchob Sripa was born in Thailand. He pursued his Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the Mahidol University, Thailand. He later obtained his Master of Science in Medical Parasitology from the same university. Sripa then moved to the United Kingdom to complete his PhD in Parasitology from the University of London.
Career and Research
After completing his PhD, Sripa returned to Thailand and joined the Faculty of Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University. He has been instrumental in advancing the understanding of the liver fluke, specifically the species Opisthorchis viverrini. His research has shed light on the life cycle of this parasite, its pathogenesis, and its role in causing cholangiocarcinoma.
Sripa's work has led to the development of new diagnostic tools and treatment strategies for liver fluke infections. He has also been involved in public health initiatives to control and prevent these infections in endemic areas.
Honors and Awards
In recognition of his contributions to parasitology and tropical medicine, Sripa has received several awards and honors. These include the Prince Mahidol Award in the field of Medicine, one of the most prestigious awards in Thailand.
