Balochi (/bəˈloʊtʃi/; Balòči: بلوچی) is a Northwestern Iranian language spoken primarily in the Balochistan region of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. It is also spoken in parts of Turkmenistan, Oman, the UAE, and diaspora communities in East Africa.
Etymology
The term Balochi is derived from the name of the Baloch people. The exact origin of the word 'Baloch' is unclear, but it is believed to be derived from the Median word 'brza-vaciya', which translates to 'tall man' in English.
