Aviane

Aviane (pronounced: /ˈæviˌæn/) is a type of combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP), also known as "the pill". It contains two types of hormones, ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel, which are types of estrogen and progestin respectively. These hormones prevent ovulation and also cause changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Etymology

The name "Aviane" is a brand name and does not have a known etymology. It is a proprietary name registered by the pharmaceutical company Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Usage

Aviane is used to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to make periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, and decrease the risk of ovarian cysts.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Aviane can cause side effects. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, or weight change. Serious side effects are rare, but may include blood clots, stroke, or heart attack.
