Assent (/əˈsɛnt/) is a term used in the medical field to refer to the process of obtaining agreement from a patient or participant to participate in a medical procedure or research study after being provided with all the necessary information.

The term "assent" originates from the Latin word "assentire", which means "to agree or to give consent".
