Alcohol monopoly
Alcohol Monopoly
An Alcohol Monopoly (pronunciation: /ˈælkəhɒl məˈnɒpəli/) is a type of Government monopoly where a government agency has exclusive rights to produce, import, and sell Alcoholic beverages within a certain geographical area.
Etymology
The term "Alcohol Monopoly" is derived from the combination of two words. "Alcohol" comes from the Arabic word "al-kuhl" which means 'the kohl', a powder used as an eyeliner. "Monopoly", on the other hand, is derived from the Greek words "monos" meaning 'single' and "polein" meaning 'to sell'.
