Al-Azhar University – Gaza (AUG) is a public university located in Gaza, Palestine. It was established in 1991, making it one of the key institutions of higher education in the Gaza Strip. The university is named after Al-Azhar University in Cairo, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the Islamic world. Despite sharing a name and a historical connection, Al-Azhar University – Gaza operates independently from its Egyptian counterpart.
