AirPods Max
Wireless over-ear headphones by Apple Inc.
AirPods Max are wireless over-ear headphones designed and manufactured by Apple Inc.. They were announced on December 8, 2020, and released on December 15, 2020. The AirPods Max are part of the AirPods line of products, which also includes the AirPods and AirPods Pro.
Design[edit]
The AirPods Max feature a unique design that includes a stainless steel frame covered with a soft-touch material. The ear cups are made from anodized aluminum and are connected to the headband via a mechanism that allows them to pivot independently and balance pressure. The headband is made from a breathable knit mesh that distributes weight and reduces on-head pressure.
The ear cushions are made from memory foam and are designed to create an effective seal for immersive sound. The headphones are available in several colors, including space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink.
Features[edit]
AirPods Max include several features that enhance the listening experience:
- Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): The headphones use computational audio to block out external noise, allowing for an immersive listening experience.
- Transparency Mode: This feature allows users to hear and interact with the world around them while still listening to audio.
- Spatial Audio: AirPods Max support spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, providing a theater-like experience for audio content.
- Adaptive EQ: The headphones automatically adjust the sound to the fit and seal of the ear cushions.
Technology[edit]
The AirPods Max are powered by the Apple-designed H1 chip in each ear cup, which enables computational audio capabilities. The headphones use optical and position sensors, accelerometers, and gyroscopes to detect when they are on a user's head and to control audio playback.
The Digital Crown, inspired by the Apple Watch, allows users to precisely control volume, skip between tracks, answer phone calls, and activate Siri.
Battery Life[edit]
AirPods Max offer up to 20 hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, or movie playback with Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio enabled. The headphones come with a Smart Case that puts AirPods Max in an ultra-low-power state to preserve battery life when not in use.
Reception[edit]
Upon release, AirPods Max received praise for their build quality, sound performance, and effective noise cancellation. However, they were also noted for their high price point compared to other headphones in the market.
