The Age of Discovery (also known as the Age of Exploration) is a historical period from the early 15th century and continuing into the early 17th century, during which European ships were traveled around the world to search for new trading routes and partners.

Etymology
The term "Age of Discovery" is derived from the extensive overseas exploration emerged as a powerful factor in European culture, most notably the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492 and the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano in 1522.
