Adenoid cystic carcinoma most commonly occurs in the salivary glands, but can also occur in other parts of the body, such as the larynx, trachea, lacrimal gland (the gland that produces tears), breast, and uterus. Adenoid cystic carcinoma usually grows slowly. It tends to spread along the nerves to nearby tissues and into the blood. In rare cases, it can spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body, especially the lungs
