Adam Sandler
Adam Richard Sandler (born September 9, 1966) is an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and film producer. He was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1995, before going on to star in many Hollywood films, which have combined to earn more than $2 billion at the box office.
Early Life
Adam Sandler was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Judith "Judy" (née Levine), a nursery school teacher, and Stanley Sandler, an electrical engineer. His family is Jewish and descends from Russian-Jewish immigrants on both sides. Sandler grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, after moving there at the age of six. He attended Manchester Central High School. He graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1988.
Career
Early Work
Sandler's first television appearance was on The Cosby Show in 1987, where he played the friend of Theo Huxtable. He was also a regular on the MTV game show Remote Control.
Saturday Night Live
In 1990, Sandler was hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live (SNL) and became a featured player the following year. He is known for his comedic songs, including "The Chanukah Song".
Film Career
Sandler's first starring role was in the 1995 film Billy Madison. He followed this with several successful films including Happy Gilmore (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), Big Daddy (1999), and Mr. Deeds (2002). He also voiced Dracula in the Hotel Transylvania franchise.
Production Company
In 1999, Sandler founded Happy Madison Productions, a film and television production company that has produced many of his films and other projects.
Dramatic Roles
Sandler has also received critical acclaim for his dramatic roles in films such as Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Reign Over Me (2007), Funny People (2009), and Uncut Gems (2019).
Personal Life
Sandler has been married to Jacqueline Titone since 2003. They have two daughters, Sadie and Sunny. Sandler is known for his philanthropy, having donated $1 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in his hometown.
