Academy Honorary Award
Academy Honorary Award
The Academy Honorary Award is an award presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the United States. It is given to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.
The award is not limited to actors or directors; it can be awarded to anyone in the film industry, including producers, writers, and technicians. The award is often presented at the annual Academy Awards ceremony, but it is not a competitive award like the Academy Award for Best Picture or Academy Award for Best Actor.
History
The Academy Honorary Award was first introduced in 1929, during the first Academy Awards ceremony. The award was created to recognize achievements that did not fit into the competitive categories of the Oscars. Over the years, it has been awarded to a wide range of individuals for various contributions to the film industry.
