AbioCor (/ˈæbi.oʊˌkɔːr/) is a fully self-contained artificial heart developed by Abiomed. It is designed to replace the functions of a failing heart in patients with end-stage heart disease.

Etymology

The term "AbioCor" is derived from the name of the company that developed it, Abiomed, and the Latin word "cor," which means heart.

Description

The AbioCor is a prosthetic device that replaces the heart's four chambers. It is made of titanium and plastic, and is powered by a rechargeable source that can be worn externally.
