Abidjan (/ˌæbɪˈdʒɑːn/; French pronunciation: [abidʒɑ̃]) is the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire and one of the most populous French-speaking cities in Africa.
Etymology
The name Abidjan comes from the local language where 'Abi' means 'to cut' and 'Djan' means 'teeth'. It is believed to refer to a war that took place in the area where the inhabitants had to sharpen their weapons on their teeth.
