AMG 706

AMG 706 (pronounced as A-M-G Seven-Oh-Six) is an investigational small molecule inhibitor that targets multiple kinases, including vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR), platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR), and stem cell factor receptor (c-Kit).

Etymology

The term AMG 706 is a proprietary name given by Amgen, a multinational biopharmaceutical company. The 'AMG' stands for Applied Molecular Genetics, the original name of the company, while '706' is a unique identifier for the drug candidate.

Mechanism of Action

AMG 706 works by inhibiting the activity of certain protein kinases, which are enzymes that add phosphate groups to other proteins. By blocking these kinases, AMG 706 can prevent the growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow and spread, a process known as angiogenesis.
