stem cell factor receptor - protein found on the surface of many different cell types. It attaches to a substance called stem cell factor (SCF), which causes certain types of blood cells to grow. The stem cell factor receptor can also be found at higher than normal levels or in altered forms on some types of cancer cells, including gastrointestinal stromal tumors and melanoma.
