List of brunch foods




Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch, and regularly has some form of alcoholic drink served with it. It is usually served anytime before 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The word is a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch. Brunch originated in England in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States in the 1930s. This is a list of notable brunch foods and dishes. Brunch foods are prepared by a multitude of methods, such as cooking, baking and frying.
List of brunch foods[edit]
Eggs[edit]
- Eggs Benedict: A traditional American brunch or breakfast dish that consists of two halves of an English muffin each of which is topped with Canadian bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce.
- Scrambled eggs: A dish made from eggs stirred or beaten together in a pan while being gently heated.
- Omelette: A dish made from beaten eggs fried with butter or oil in a frying pan.
Breads[edit]
- French toast: Bread soaked in eggs and milk, then fried.
- Pancakes: A flat cake, often thin and round, prepared from a starch-based batter and cooked on a hot surface such as a griddle or frying pan.
- Bagels and lox: A sandwich made with a bagel, smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Meats[edit]
- Bacon: A type of salt-cured pork, usually prepared from several different cuts of meat.
- Sausage: A meat product usually made from ground meat, often pork, beef, or poultry, along with salt, spices and other flavorings.
- Ham: Meat from a leg cut that has been preserved by wet or dry curing, with or without smoking.
Pastries and sweets[edit]
- Cinnamon roll: A sweet roll served commonly in Northern Europe and North America.
- Muffin: A baked good that is a part of American cuisine and is similar to a cupcake in size and cooking methods.
- Danish pastry: A multilayered, laminated sweet pastry in the viennoiserie tradition.
Beverages[edit]
- Coffee: A brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans.
- Tea: An aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured leaves of the Camellia sinensis, an evergreen shrub native to East Asia.
- Mimosa (cocktail): A cocktail composed of equal parts champagne and chilled citrus juice, usually orange juice.
