Far Rockaway is a neighborhood on the Rockaway Peninsula in the New York City borough of Queens. It is the easternmost section of the Rockaways and is bordered by Bayswater to the west, Inwood to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Far Rockaway is part of Queens Community Board 14.

History[edit]

Far Rockaway has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century when it was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The name "Rockaway" is derived from a Lenape word meaning "sandy place." In the 19th century, Far Rockaway became a popular seaside resort, attracting visitors from New York City and beyond.
