Woodside is a residential and commercial neighborhood in the borough of Queens, New York City. It is located in the western part of the borough and is bordered by Astoria to the north, Sunnyside to the west, Elmhurst to the east, and Maspeth to the south.
History[edit]
Woodside was originally settled by Europeans in the 17th century. The area was primarily farmland until the late 19th century when it began to develop as a residential neighborhood. The arrival of the Long Island Rail Road in the 1860s spurred growth, and by the early 20th century, Woodside had become a thriving community.
In the 20th century, Woodside saw waves of immigration, with significant populations of Irish, Italians, and later, Asians and Latinos. This diverse cultural heritage is reflected in the neighborhood's vibrant community and variety of restaurants and shops.
