Malibu is a city located in the western region of Los Angeles County, California, United States. Known for its Mediterranean climate, Malibu is home to numerous Hollywood celebrities, others in the entertainment industry, and other affluent residents. The city is also known for its scenic beauty, including its sandy beaches and the Santa Monica Mountains that act as a backdrop.

Malibu's history dates back to the Chumash people, who were the original inhabitants of the region. The name "Malibu" is believed to be derived from the Chumash word "Humaliwo," which means "the surf sounds loudly." The city was later part of the Spanish land grant, Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit, in the 19th century. It was incorporated as a city in 1991.

Malibu spans over 21 miles along the Pacific Coast Highway and is bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the south and the Santa Monica Mountains to the north. The city's topography is dominated by coastal bluffs, rolling hills, and canyons. Notable geographical features include Malibu Creek, Malibu Lagoon, and Point Dume.
