Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center is a psychiatric hospital located in Jessup, Maryland, United States. It is managed by the Maryland Department of Health and is one of the oldest state-run mental health facilities in Maryland.

History[edit]

The hospital was established in 1959 and was named after Dr. Clifton T. Perkins, a prominent psychiatrist and former superintendent of Springfield State Hospital. The hospital was initially designed to provide care for the criminally insane, but over the years, its mission has expanded to include a broader range of psychiatric services.

Services[edit]

Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center provides a variety of services including forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and neuropsychiatry. The hospital also offers rehabilitation services and vocational training for patients.

Forensic Psychiatry[edit]

The hospital's Forensic Psychiatry unit provides evaluation and treatment for individuals involved in the legal system. This includes competency evaluations, criminal responsibility assessments, and treatment for individuals found Not Criminally Responsible or Incompetent to Stand Trial.

Geriatric Psychiatry[edit]

The Geriatric Psychiatry unit at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center provides specialized care for older adults with psychiatric disorders. This includes treatment for conditions such as dementia, depression, and anxiety disorders.

Neuropsychiatry[edit]

The Neuropsychiatry unit provides care for patients with psychiatric disorders that are associated with neurological conditions, such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Rehabilitation Services[edit]

The hospital's Rehabilitation Services department offers a range of therapies designed to help patients regain skills and abilities that have been affected by their psychiatric conditions. This includes occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy.

Vocational Training[edit]
