Githinji Gitahi
Biography

Dr. Githinji Gitahi is a prominent Kenyan physician and global health advocate, known for his leadership in public health and his role as the Group CEO of Amref Health Africa. Born in Kenya, Dr. Gitahi has dedicated his career to improving health systems and advocating for universal health coverage across Africa.
Dr. Gitahi completed his medical degree at the University of Nairobi, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical medicine. He later pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from the United States International University Africa, which equipped him with skills to effectively manage health programs and organizations.
Career
Dr. Gitahi began his career as a medical officer in various hospitals in Kenya, where he gained firsthand experience in the challenges faced by healthcare systems in resource-limited settings. His passion for public health led him to join the private sector, where he worked with several multinational companies, including GlaxoSmithKline and Nation Media Group.
In 2015, Dr. Gitahi was appointed as the Group CEO of Amref Health Africa, one of the largest African-based international health development organizations. Under his leadership, Amref has expanded its reach and impact, focusing on strengthening health systems, training health workers, and advocating for health policies that prioritize the needs of the most vulnerable populations.
