Hangzhou

Hangzhou's history dates back to the Neolithic Age when the Hemudu culture, one of the earliest known cultures in China, was thriving. The city was established as a county in the Qin Dynasty and has been the capital of various dynasties such as the Wuyue Kingdom and the Southern Song Dynasty.
Geography[edit]
Hangzhou is located in the southeastern coast of China, at the southern end of the Grand Canal of China. The city is surrounded by hills on three sides and faces the Qiantang River on one side. The West Lake is a significant feature of Hangzhou, offering a picturesque setting that blends naturally with many famous historical and cultural sites.
