A comprehensive overview of Glenburgie Distillery

Glenburgie Distillery

Glenburgie Distillery is a Scottish whisky distillery located near Forres, in the Speyside region. It is known for producing single malt whisky that is often used in blends, particularly in the Ballantine's range.

History[edit]

The distillery was founded in 1829 by William Paul. Originally known as Kilnflat, it was renamed Glenburgie in 1878. Over the years, the distillery has undergone several ownership changes and renovations. In 2004, a major reconstruction was completed, modernizing the facilities while preserving traditional methods of whisky production.

Production[edit]

Glenburgie Distillery uses water from the local springs in the Romach Hills. The distillery operates with six pot stills, which are used to distill the wash and spirit. The whisky is aged in a variety of casks, including bourbon and sherry casks, which contribute to its distinctive flavor profile.

Products[edit]

While Glenburgie is primarily known for its contribution to blended whiskies, it also produces single malt expressions. These are characterized by a fruity and floral aroma, with notes of apple, pear, and honey. The single malts are available in various age statements, offering a range of flavors and complexities.

Visitor Centre[edit]

The distillery offers tours to visitors, providing insights into the whisky-making process. The visitor centre includes a tasting room where guests can sample different expressions of Glenburgie whisky.
