Sherry (/ˈʃɛri/; Spanish: Jerez [xeˈɾeθ]) is a type of fortified wine made from white grapes that are grown near the city of Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Spain.
Etymology
The word "Sherry" is an anglicization of Xeres (Jerez), the Spanish town where this type of wine originated. The Spanish term for Sherry, "Jerez," is derived from the Arabic name for the town, "Sherish."
