History

United Biscuits was founded in 1948 following the merger of two Scottish family businesses, McVitie & Price and MacFarlane Lang. The company expanded rapidly, acquiring other businesses such as Crawford's Biscuits in 1960 and William MacDonald & Sons in 1965. In 1972, United Biscuits acquired Carr's of Carlisle, further expanding its product range.

In the 1980s, United Biscuits continued to grow, acquiring Keebler Company in the United States in 1974, although it later sold Keebler in 1995. The company also expanded into the snacks market with the acquisition of KP Snacks in 1999.

Products

United Biscuits is known for its wide range of biscuit and snack products. Some of its most popular brands include McVitie's, Jacob's, Carr's, and Jaffa Cakes. The company also produces a variety of savoury snacks under the KP Snacks brand, including Hula Hoops, Skips, and McCoy's.

Ownership

In 2000, United Biscuits was acquired by Finalrealm, a consortium including Nabisco, Danone, and Cinven. In 2006, the company was sold to Blackstone Group and PAI Partners. In 2014, United Biscuits was acquired by Yildiz Holding, a Turkish conglomerate, and became part of its Pladis division.

Operations

United Biscuits operates several manufacturing sites across the UK and Europe. The company is committed to sustainability and has implemented various initiatives to reduce its environmental impact, such as reducing packaging waste and improving energy efficiency in its factories.
