Danone (pronounced /dəˈnoʊn/; French: [danɔn]) is a multinational food-products corporation based in Paris, France. It has four business lines: Fresh Dairy products, Waters, Early Life Nutrition and Medical Nutrition.
Etymology
The name "Danone" comes from "Daniel Carasso", the founder of the company. The name is a diminutive form of Daniel in Catalan, his mother tongue.
History
Danone was founded by Isaac Carasso, a Greek Sephardic Jew who began producing yogurt in Barcelona, Spain in 1919. The brand was named Danone, a diminutive form of his son's name, Daniel Carasso. In 1929, Isaac Carasso moved the company from Spain to France, opening a plant in Paris. In 1942, Daniel Carasso moved the company to New York. In the United States, it was marketed as the Dannon Company.
Products
Danone's products include a variety of dairy products, bottled waters, baby foods, and clinical nutrition products. Some of its most well-known brands include Activia, Evian, Aptamil, and Nutricia.
