Belmont University is a private Christian university located in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1890, it has grown to become a significant institution in the region, known for its programs in music, business, and health sciences.

History

Belmont University was originally founded as the Belmont College for Young Women by Susan L. Heron and Ida B. Hood. The college was established on the site of the former Belmont Mansion, the antebellum home of Adelicia Acklen, one of the wealthiest women in the United States at the time. In 1951, the college merged with Ward-Belmont College, a similar institution, and became coeducational in 1952.

In 1991, the institution was renamed Belmont University, reflecting its expanded academic offerings and university status. Since then, Belmont has continued to grow, both in terms of student population and academic reputation.

Academics

Belmont University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across its various colleges and schools. These include the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Jack C.
