Belmont University is a private Christian university located in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1890, it is known for its strong programs in music, business, and health sciences.

History

Belmont University was originally founded as the Belmont College for Young Women in 1890 by Susan L. Heron and Ida B. Hood. The college merged with Ward Seminary in 1913 to become Ward-Belmont College, a women's junior college. In 1951, the school became coeducational and was renamed Belmont College. It achieved university status in 1991.

Academics

Belmont University offers over 90 undergraduate degrees and more than 25 graduate programs. The university is organized into several colleges, including the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Sciences and Mathematics, the Jack C. Massey College of Business, the College of Music and Performing Arts, and the College of Health Sciences and Nursing.
