Psych: The Movie is a 2017 American made-for-television comedy film based on the USA Network dramedy series Psych. The film was directed by Steve Franks, who co-wrote the script with series star James Roday Rodriguez. It premiered on December 7, 2017, on the USA Network.

Plot[edit]

The story is set three years after the series finale of Psych. Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill) reunite to solve a mystery involving one of their own. The film begins with Shawn and Gus running a private detective agency in San Francisco, where they moved in the series finale. They are joined by their friends and former colleagues, including Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson), Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), Henry Spencer (Corbin Bernsen), and Chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson).

Cast[edit]

Production[edit]

The film was announced on May 8, 2017, and was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The production reunited the original cast and crew of the Psych series. Timothy Omundson suffered a stroke just before filming began, which led to his role being significantly reduced and the script being rewritten to accommodate his condition.

Reception[edit]

Psych: The Movie received positive reviews from both fans and critics. It was praised for its humor, nostalgic references to the original series, and the performances of the cast. The film's success led to the creation of additional sequels, including Psych 2: Lassie Come Home and Psych 3: This Is Gus.
