Carlton Lassiter
Carlton Jebediah Lassiter is a fictional character on the American television series Psych. He is portrayed by actor Timothy Omundson. Lassiter is the head detective of the Santa Barbara Police Department (SBPD) and is known for his strict adherence to the rules and his skepticism of the psychic abilities of the show's protagonist, Shawn Spencer.
Character Overview
Carlton Lassiter, often referred to as "Lassie" by Shawn Spencer, is a highly skilled and dedicated detective. He is characterized by his serious demeanor, traditional approach to police work, and his initial disdain for Shawn's unconventional methods. Despite his skepticism, Lassiter often finds himself relying on Shawn's insights to solve cases.
Background
Lassiter comes from a family with a strong law enforcement background. His father and grandfather were both police officers, which influenced his decision to join the force. He is a graduate of the Santa Barbara Police Academy and has a deep respect for the law and order.
Personality
Lassiter is known for his no-nonsense attitude and his commitment to his job. He is often seen as rigid and by-the-book, which contrasts sharply with Shawn's laid-back and unorthodox style. However, over time, Lassiter's character develops a begrudging respect for Shawn's abilities, even if he never fully admits it.
Relationships
Lassiter has a complex relationship with his partner, Juliet O'Hara. While he initially doubts her capabilities, he grows to respect her as a competent detective. He also has a strained relationship with his ex-wife, Victoria, and a more positive relationship with his sister, Lauren.
Career
Throughout the series, Lassiter is shown to be an excellent marksman and a highly effective detective. He is often the first to arrive at a crime scene and the last to leave, demonstrating his dedication to his work. Despite his initial resistance to Shawn's involvement in cases, Lassiter's success rate improves with Shawn's assistance.
Trivia
- Lassiter is a fan of classic films and often references them.
- He has a pet cat named Marlowe.
