Sussex County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,829. Its county seat is Sussex.
History[edit]
Sussex County was established in 1754 from Surry County. The county was named after the county of Sussex in England. The area has a rich history, including significant events during the American Civil War.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 493 square miles (1,280 km²), of which 491 square miles (1,270 km²) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²) (0.4%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 census, there were 10,829 people, 4,000 households, and 2,800 families residing in the county. The population density was 22 people per square mile (8/km²).

The county is governed by a Board of Supervisors with representatives from each of the county's districts. The county also has a Sheriff's Office, Fire Department, and other essential services.
