History

Republic Records was initially established as an independent label in 1995. The Lipman brothers, Avery and Monte, started the label with the goal of creating a platform for diverse musical talent. In 1999, the label was acquired by Universal Music Group, and it became a subsidiary of Universal Motown Republic Group.

In 2006, Republic Records was restructured and became a stand-alone label under Universal Music Group. The label has since grown to become one of the most successful and influential record labels in the music industry.
