Branford College is one of the fourteen residential colleges at Yale University. Established in 1933, it is named after the town of Branford, Connecticut, which was the temporary home of Yale University during its early years.

History[edit]

Branford College was one of the original residential colleges created by Yale University in the early 1930s. The college was designed by the architect James Gamble Rogers, who was also responsible for many other buildings on the Yale campus. The college's design is inspired by the Gothic architecture of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Architecture[edit]

The architecture of Branford College is notable for its Gothic Revival style. The college features a prominent tower, known as Harkness Tower, which is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Yale campus. The college also includes a number of courtyards, including the main Branford Court, which is often considered one of the most beautiful spaces at Yale.
