Greek island in the Ionian Sea

Zakynthos (Greek: Ζάκυνθος , el ) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It is the third largest of the Ionian Islands and is a separate regional unit of the Ionian Islands region, and its only municipality. The island is named after Zakynthos, the son of a legendary Arcadian chief Dardanus.

Geography

Zakynthos covers an area of 405.55 square kilometers and its coastline is roughly 123 kilometers in length. The island is characterized by its diverse landscape, which includes fertile plains, rugged cliffs, and sandy beaches. The highest point on the island is Vrachionas, which rises to an elevation of 758 meters.
