Potter County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,196. The county seat is Coudersport. The county was created on September 1, 1826, and was named after James Potter, a general from the American Revolutionary War.

Geography[edit]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,081 square miles (2,800 km²), of which 1,081 square miles (2,800 km²) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km²) (0.02%) is water. Potter County is located in the Allegheny Plateau region of Pennsylvania.

As of the 2020 census, there were 16,196 people, 6,898 households, and 4,529 families residing in the county. The population density was 15 people per square mile (6/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.5% White, 0.5% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.
