Lawrence County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 86,070. The county seat and largest city is New Castle. The county was created on March 20, 1849, from parts of Beaver and Mercer counties.
History[edit]
Lawrence County was named after USS Lawrence, the flagship of Oliver Hazard Perry during the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. The county has a rich history tied to the early industrial era of the United States, particularly in the steel and iron industries.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 363 square miles (940 km²), of which 358 square miles (930 km²) is land and 4.8 square miles (12 km²) (1.3%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 census, there were 86,070 people, 35,000 households, and 22,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 240 people per square mile (93/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Asian, and other races.
