Silliman University (SU) is a private university in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Established on August 28, 1901, by the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions, it is one of the oldest American-founded institutions of higher learning in the Philippines and the entire Asia.
History
Silliman University was founded by Dr. David Sutherland Hibbard and his wife, Laura, with the support of Horace Brinsmade Silliman, a retired businessman and philanthropist from Cohoes, New York. The university started as an elementary school for boys and has since grown into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
Campus
The Silliman University campus spans 62 hectares and is located in the heart of Dumaguete City. The campus is known for its lush greenery and historic buildings, including the iconic Silliman Hall, which is the oldest American structure in the Philippines.
Academics
Silliman University offers a variety of programs through its different colleges and schools, including the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Engineering and Design, College of Law, and the College of Nursing.
