Chaudière-Appalaches

Chaudière-Appalaches is a administrative region in Quebec, Canada. It is named after the Chaudière River and the Appalachian Mountains which run through it. The region is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River, opposite Quebec City.

Geography

The Chaudière-Appalaches region is bordered to the north by the Saint Lawrence River, to the west by the Centre-du-Québec region, to the south by the United States (the states of Maine and New Hampshire), and to the east by the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. The region covers an area of 15,292.3 square kilometers.

Demographics

As of the Canada 2016 Census, the population of Chaudière-Appalaches was 421,173. The region is predominantly French-speaking, with over 98% of the population speaking French as their first language.

Economy

The economy of Chaudière-Appalaches is diverse, with sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, and services. The region is known for its dairy farming, and is one of the largest producers of milk in Quebec.

Health

The health care in Chaudière-Appalaches is managed by the regional health authority, Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de Chaudière-Appalaches (CISSS de Chaudière-Appalaches). The region has several hospitals and health clinics providing a range of medical services.

Education

Chaudière-Appalaches is home to several educational institutions, including the Cégep de Thetford and the Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon. The region also has numerous primary schools and secondary schools.
