John Travis (physician)
John Travis (born 1944) is an American physician and author who is recognized as a pioneer in the wellness movement. He is best known for his Wellness Inventory, a whole-person wellness assessment and life-balance program used by wellness and health coaches, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
Early Life and Education
John Travis was born in 1944 in America. He completed his B.S. degree in Pre-Med from Harvard University in 1966. He then went on to earn his M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1971.
Career
After completing his medical degree, Travis started his career as a Public Health Service Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service. In 1975, he opened the Wellness Resource Center in Mill Valley, California, which was one of the first wellness centers in the United States.
Travis is best known for his Wellness Inventory, a comprehensive assessment tool that measures twelve dimensions of personal wellness. This tool has been widely used by health and wellness professionals to help individuals understand their current state of wellness and develop personalized strategies for improving their health and well-being.
In addition to his work in wellness, Travis has also authored several books on the subject, including The Wellness Workbook and Wellness for Helping Professionals.
Legacy
