BRAVO Volunteer Ambulance is a non-profit organization that provides emergency medical services (EMS) to the Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York City. Founded in 1974, it is the oldest volunteer ambulance service in the borough.

History

BRAVO Volunteer Ambulance was established by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for a faster response to medical emergencies in their community. The organization was initially funded through fundraising efforts and donations from local businesses and residents. Today, it continues to rely on these sources for its operational costs.

Services

BRAVO provides Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) services. BLS services are provided by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), who are trained to handle a wide range of emergencies, including cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and trauma. ALS services are provided by Paramedics, who have advanced training in emergency medicine and can perform more complex procedures.

Training

BRAVO offers training programs for individuals interested in becoming EMTs or paramedics. These programs include both classroom instruction and hands-on training in the field. In addition, BRAVO provides CPR and First Aid training to the public.

Community Involvement

BRAVO is deeply involved in the communities it serves. It participates in local events, provides educational programs on health and safety, and works closely with other emergency services in the area.
