Vicki Colvin

Vicki Colvin is an American chemist and nanotechnology researcher. She is currently the Vernon K. Krieble Professor of Chemistry at Brown University, and also serves as the university's Provost. Colvin's research primarily focuses on the environmental impact of nanomaterials.

Early Life and Education

Vicki Colvin was born in the United States. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Chemistry at Stanford University, where she developed an interest in nanotechnology. She then went on to earn her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Career

After completing her Ph.D., Colvin joined the faculty of Rice University in Houston, Texas. There, she served as the director of the Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology (CBEN) and the Kenneth S. Pitzer-Schlumberger Professor of Chemistry. In 2014, she moved to Brown University where she currently holds the position of Vernon K. Krieble Professor of Chemistry and Provost.

Research

Colvin's research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and application of nanomaterials, particularly their environmental impact. She has made significant contributions to the understanding of how these materials interact with biological systems and the environment. Her work has led to the development of new methods for the detection and removal of contaminants in water using nanotechnology.

Awards and Honors
