Harrodsburg, Kentucky

Harrodsburg is a city in Mercer County, Kentucky, United States. It is the oldest city in Kentucky and has been the seat of Mercer County since 1785. The city is named after James Harrod, a pioneer who led a group of settlers to the area in 1774.

History[edit]

Harrodsburg was established by James Harrod in June 1774, making it the first permanent English settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains. The settlement was initially known as Harrodstown or Harrod's Town, but the name was shortened to Harrodsburg in 1785.

Geography[edit]

Harrodsburg is located in central Kentucky, in the heart of the Bluegrass region. The city is approximately 32 miles southwest of Lexington and 75 miles southeast of Louisville.
