Corning Incorporated is an American multinational technology company that specializes in specialty glass, ceramics, and related materials and technologies including advanced optics, primarily for industrial and scientific applications. The company was known as Corning Glass Works until 1989.

History[edit]

Corning Incorporated was established in 1851 in Corning, New York. It was originally named Bay State Glass Co. and was renamed Corning Glass Works in 1875. The company changed its name to Corning Incorporated in 1989 to reflect its diverse product range and operations.

Products and Services[edit]

Corning's products include Gorilla Glass, which is used by many smartphone makers. A type of chemically strengthened glass, Gorilla Glass is designed to be thin, light and damage-resistant. Corning also produces a glass substrate for liquid crystal displays (LCDs) known as EAGLE XG Glass.

In addition to glass, Corning's ceramic products include Ceramic Substrates and filters for emissions control in vehicles and mobile devices. The company also produces the Valor Glass packaging for pharmaceutical applications.
