Prue Leith

Prue Leith is a British chef, restaurateur, and television presenter. She is best known for her work as a judge on the popular TV show, The Great British Bake Off.

Career

Leith started her career as a chef in the 1960s, opening her own restaurant, Leith's, in London in 1969. She went on to open several more restaurants, and also founded a successful catering company, Leith's Good Food. In addition to her work in the culinary industry, Leith is also a successful author, having written several cookbooks, as well as novels and memoirs. Leith is perhaps best known for her role as a judge on The Great British Bake Off, a popular television competition show that features amateur bakers competing to create the best baked goods. Leith joined the show in 2017, replacing Mary Berry as a judge alongside Paul Hollywood.

Awards and Honours

Leith has received numerous awards and honours throughout her career. In 1993, she was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her services to the culinary industry. She was later made a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 2010. In 2018, Leith was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Reading, in recognition of her contributions to the culinary industry.

Personal Life

Leith was born in South Africa in 1940 and spent much of her early life there. She later moved to London, where she began her career as a chef. Leith has been married twice and has two children. She is also an active philanthropist and has worked to support a variety of charitable causes throughout her career.
