Perugu Pachadi is a type of chutney originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is a popular condiment in the South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The main ingredients of Perugu Pachadi are yogurt (known as perugu in Telugu), vegetables, green chillies, and seasoning.

Etymology

The term Perugu Pachadi is derived from two Telugu words: perugu meaning yogurt and pachadi meaning chutney.

Ingredients and Preparation

Perugu Pachadi is made by combining yogurt with various vegetables such as tomato, cucumber, onion, or bottle gourd. The vegetables are usually cooked before being mixed with the yogurt. The mixture is then seasoned with green chillies, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and red chilli powder. Some variations of the recipe may also include ginger and garlic.

Serving

Perugu Pachadi is typically served as a side dish with rice or roti. It is a common part of meals in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, especially during the summer months due to its cooling properties.

Variations

There are many variations of Perugu Pachadi, with different vegetables and spices used depending on personal preference and regional differences. Some popular variations include Tomato Perugu Pachadi, Cucumber Perugu Pachadi, and Onion Perugu Pachadi.
