MMDMA

MMDMA (3-Methoxy-4,5-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine) is a psychoactive drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine chemical classes. It was first synthesized in the 1970s by Alexander Shulgin, a renowned chemist and psychopharmacologist. MMDMA is mentioned in Shulgin's book PiHKAL (Phenethylamines I Have Known And Loved).

Chemistry

MMDMA is a methoxy derivative of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy. The chemical structure of MMDMA is similar to that of MDMA, with the difference being the addition of a methoxy group at the 3-position of the phenyl ring.

Pharmacology

The pharmacological properties of MMDMA are not well studied. However, based on its chemical structure, it is likely that MMDMA acts as a serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine releasing agent (SNDRA) and possibly as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI).

Effects

The effects of MMDMA in humans are not well documented. However, anecdotal reports suggest that the drug produces effects similar to those of other psychedelic amphetamines, including increased energy, euphoria, and altered perception.

Legality

MMDMA is not specifically listed as a controlled substance in most countries, but its possession and sale may be considered illegal under analogue laws in countries such as the United States and Australia.
