JTC-801 is a drug that acts as an opioid antagonist and has analgesic effects. It is specifically a selective antagonist for the NOP (nociceptin) receptor, also known as the ORL-1 (opioid receptor-like 1) receptor. This drug was developed by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Japan Tobacco.

Pharmacology

JTC-801 is a synthetic analog of the natural peptide Nociceptin, which is the endogenous ligand for the NOP receptor. The NOP receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor that is involved in pain regulation and mood disorders. By blocking this receptor, JTC-801 can reduce pain and potentially have effects on mood.

Clinical Use

JTC-801 has been studied in preclinical trials for its potential use in treating pain, particularly chronic pain conditions such as neuropathic pain and cancer pain. It has also been suggested that it could be used to treat mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, due to the role of the NOP receptor in these conditions.

Side Effects

As with all drugs, JTC-801 has the potential to cause side effects. These can include nausea, dizziness, and constipation, which are common side effects of opioid drugs. However, because JTC-801 is a NOP receptor antagonist rather than a traditional opioid, it may have a different side effect profile.
