MedStar Washington Hospital Center is a non-profit, tertiary, teaching hospital located in Washington, D.C., United States. It is the largest private hospital in the nation's capital and among the 50 largest hospitals in the nation. Founded in 1958, the Hospital Center's services include cardiology, oncology, neuroscience, orthopedics, and women's health.

History

MedStar Washington Hospital Center was established in 1958 when three specialty hospitals merged to form a single, comprehensive medical center. The original hospitals were Garfield Hospital, founded in 1882; Central Dispensary and Emergency Hospital, founded in 1873; and Episcopal Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, founded in 1887.
