Charles University (Czech: Univerzita Karlova) is the oldest and largest university in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1348, it was the first university in Central Europe, east of France and north of Italy. Charles University is one of the world's oldest universities still in operation and ranks in the upper 1.5 percent of the world’s best universities.

History

Charles University was founded by Charles IV in 1348, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. It was modelled on the universities in Bologna and Paris, and within a very short time, it achieved international renown.

Faculties

Charles University consists of 17 faculties, based primarily in Prague, but also in other cities across the Czech Republic. The faculties cover a wide range of fields, including Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Medicine.

Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine is one of the original four faculties of Charles University. It is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of medicine and health sciences through research, teaching, and public service. The faculty offers a wide range of programs in medicine, nursing, and other health-related fields.

Notable Alumni

Charles University has produced many notable alumni, including Albert Einstein, who was a professor at the university, and Milan Kundera, a world-renowned author.
