Scriptaid is a histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDAC inhibitor) that is used in cancer research. It was first identified in a screen for compounds that could reactivate the expression of transcriptionally silenced genes in cancer cells. Scriptaid has been shown to have potent anti-tumor activity in a variety of cancer cell lines and animal models.

History

Scriptaid was first identified in a screen for compounds that could reactivate the expression of transcriptionally silenced genes in cancer cells. This was done by testing a library of small molecules for their ability to reactivate a silenced reporter gene in a cancer cell line. Mechanism of Action

This leads to an increase in the acetylation of histones, which in turn leads to an increase in gene expression. This can result in the reactivation of genes that have been silenced in cancer cells, which can lead to the death of the cancer cells.

Use in Cancer Research

Scriptaid has been shown to have potent anti-tumor activity in a variety of cancer cell lines and animal models. It has been shown to induce apoptosis (cell death) in cancer cells, and to inhibit the growth of tumors in animal models.
